College Scholars Award Recipients Named

The College Scholars Program showcases faculty excellence in research fields that go beyond the classroom to make scholarly contributions to knowledge within the professor’s academic discipline. Successful applicants deliver two public presentations and visit two classes as an invited guest or lead a faculty seminar/colloquium in consultation with the Office of Faculty Development.

Our Juneteenth Celebration: A Conversation with Ilyasah Shabazz

To kick off the week of JCCC’s Juneteenth celebration, the College has invited renowned City University of New York (CUNY) professor Ilyasah Shabazz to give a virtual presentation to JCCC faculty, staff, students, and the community.


“Malcolm X: The Man and Father Away From the Podium,”
will be followed by a Q&A moderated by JCCC’s Black Student Union.

Monday, June 14 | 7 – 8:00 p.m. | via Zoom

Summer Teaching Institute; Aug. 9 & 10

This two-day event will cover multiple aspects of the teaching and learning endeavor, including

  • Engaging online teaching strategies
  • DEI in the classroom
  • Universal Design for Learning (UDL)
  • Active learning strategies
  • Assessment

The Summer Teaching Institute is hosted by the Office of Faculty Development and the Office of Assessment. There is a $300 stipend for participants. Apply here to take part in the Summer Teaching Institute.

Canvas Juneteenth Module

In honor of the JCCC’s celebration of Juneteenth, please consider including this Canvas course module in your summer courses. It was created by Dr. Tai Edwards, History. You can find it in Canvas Commons or the JCCC Faculty Community and Resources Canvas site. If you need assistance importing the module into your course, please contact the EdTech Center.
