Dr. Andrea Vieux

SPOTLIGHT ON ACHIEVEMENT

Congratulations to Dr. Andrea Vieux, Associate Professor of Political Science, the 2021 Leadership in Service Learning Award recipient! The Leadership in Service Learning Award recognizes exemplary contributions of an instructor to students, colleagues, the College and the community through the advocacy and practice of service learning. Dr. Vieux has worked with the Community-Based Learning Department since her hiring at JCCC in 2017. She received a Community-Based Learning Development Grant during her first year at the college and has continually offered and improved her service learning project ever since.

Her nominator, Dr. Tai Edwards, said, “Through Dr. Vieux’s service learning in her political science courses, she forces students out into the world to get experience, while giving them the tools to really understand the organizations and how their labor relates to organizational mission and the community as a whole. This builds students’ confidence in themselves as professionals, it broadens their understanding of the kinds of work they could do both before and after graduation, and it leads them to truly engage with our “community.”
