Danny Alexander, David Cantwell and Dave Marsh

SPOTLIGHT ON ACHIEVEMENT

Danny Alexander, English, helped organize “Land of Hope and Dreams - A Celebration of Dave Marsh's Work and Vision." The conference will be spread over three weekends starting April 30 and will honor Dave Marsh, American music critic and author who has written for Creem magazine, Newsday, The Village Voice, and Rolling Stone, and has published numerous books about music and musicians, mostly focused on rock music. Dave Marsh spoke at an all-school convocation at JCCC in the spring of 1990. Professor Alexander has been writing and collaborating with Marsh for over 30 years. Longtime JCCC adjunct English professor David Cantwell, who writes for Rolling Stone and the New Yorker, will also be presenting in one of the sessions. Cantwell and Alexander co-created a class called The Literature of American Popular Music."

Musicians such as Bruce Springsteen, Stevie Van Zandt, Nona Hendryx, Gretchen Peters, Alejandro Escovedo and critics including Jon Landau, Greil Marcus, Robert Christgau, Ann Powers and Holly Gleason will join panels and spotlight conversations.

This event is free and open to the public and will be presented as a series of Zoom webinars, though there are a limited number of registrations available.
