SPOTLIGHT ON ACHIEVEMENT

Spotlight on Assessment Award Winners Named
Congratulations to faculty members Sheryl Hadley, economics, Bill Koch, astronomy, and Jean Ann Vickers, biology. They are the second round winners of the Spotlight on Assessment Award given by the Assessment Council. This award recognizes the ongoing contributions to the work of assessment in departments and divisions. The award carries a $300 stipend and a small token of appreciation from the assessment office. These faculty members were recognized for all they do to support student learning in their classroom.

Invoke Turnitin after Submissions already Turned in

Have you ever developed suspicions that students might have plagiarized material for a particular paper after one or more submissions have already been made? Of course you have! But it isn’t too late. You can edit an assignment with prior submissions to invoke Turnitin for plagiarism checking, even if you didn’t tell Canvas to use Turnitin when you created the assignment.

PROFESSIONAL ENRICHMENT

Everything You Need to Know, But Were Afraid to Ask About FERPA; Dec. 7 at 11 a.m. - Presenters Terri Easley-Giraldo (OLAC Chair), Ed Lovitt (Director Educational Technology), and Leslie Quinn (Director Enrollment Services & Registrar) will focus on how to comply with FERPA in various aspects of online teaching, Zoom, and Canvas. They will cover Zoom recordings, merging classes and adding people to your Canvas courses. After the presentation, panelists will answer questions. This session will be recorded and made available for those unable to attend. The Zoom link is https://jccc.zoom.us/my/distance.

STUDENT FOCUS

50th Anniversary Mural painted by former JCCC student This month the JCCC 50th Anniversary Mural was installed in the newly remodeled Billington Library. The mural was painted by former JCCC Student Paige Crosswhite. Paige was recently selected by popular vote of The Pitch Magazine readers as Best Local KC Artist 2020.
